31st March 2014 is the start of a new year in many calendars of the world. It is also the period of those nine days when Devi is said to visit our homes. And, I am pleased to present to you my new books under the series - The Chronicles of Devi .
The story of Devi is an epic adventure. Billions of years ago when the primordial
force created the cosmos, she also created many planets which were worthy of
sustaining life. One such planet was Bhuvan. Devi held the magical dust in her soft, beautiful palm and looked
at it with concentration—her big eyes had a naughty twinkle. Each particle
danced, but just, and then she gently blew it onto Bhuvan. What happened next
was mesmerizing. The sparkling, twinkling dust, in all hues of the rainbow,
enveloped Bhuvan and started to form multiple double helixes, spinning lazily
on their axes. Some were long, some short, but all had a unique pattern and
glowed with a distinct hue. The helixes descended on Bhuvan and did a merry
cosmic dance before they grouped and gravitated to form three shiny orbs. The
orbs spun in a frenzy, and as they rotated a golden twinkle appeared
momentarily on the long index finger of Devi’s right hand.
Three worlds were created.
Under the infinite and invisible empyrean forces unleashed
by Devi, the stage was now set for the three worlds of planet Bhuvan to
procreate, proliferate, and propagate themselves and their beings.
The cosmic experiment set up by Devi had enough mélange,
spicy incongruity, potpourri of emotions, and pastiche of wisdom, that Bhuvan
could continue to seek its balance for many, many years, never quite achieving
it.
Love, lust, compassion, hatred, rich, poor, strong, weak,
yours, and mine manifested themselves in the mortal beings of Bhuvan. For the
most part, the Devas were able to restore the delicate balance whenever a
crisis arose, but there were times when even the Devas found themselves unable
to restore the balance and looked up to Devi for help.
One such calamitous crisis was unfolding in the womb of a
buffalo.
